On today’s episode of the By His Grace podcast, Misty Phillip sits down with the President of Summit Ministries, Dr. Jeff Myers, to discuss cancel culture, forgiveness, and taking challenging social media conversations offline to try to come to an understanding. We discuss our thoughts on the Will Smith incident at the Oscars, and responding from a Biblical Worldview.
Key Takeaways
“Cancel culture started when people realized large corporations would be responsive to their audience if people, for example, signed a petition because they didn’t like a product that was made…In the age of social media, people began to turn those same tools on individuals.”
“Is it enough to say I’m sorry and then make it seem as this never happened well that’s not really a biblical approach and forgiveness isn’t that way either”
“It doesn’t allow an opportunity for people to grow.”
“Its bad for public discourse. But second of all, It is bad for individuals it shows the next generation you don’t have learn how to resolve conflicts with other people. you can just cancel them or bully them online.”
“Where is the opportunity to resolve conflict and to move forward in relationship.”
“Love God, love our neighbor.”
“Jesus said that we should forgive our enemies not just seven times, but 70 times seven, a figure that represents infinity. Forgiveness is to be the way we live, not just the words we say.”
“You always walk in forgiveness of your enemies. At every moment of everyday you walk in forgiveness. Saying I forgive you and this is over let’s pretend like it never happened is not realistic. We all have to live in the grace of repentance and forgiveness at all moments during all moments of our lives.”
“We don’t have to respond to everything. You don’t have to put online everything you think.”

Misty Phillip sits down with Shannon Popkin at the CPE – Christian Product Expo to discuss influence and comparision. Shannon is the host of Live Like It’s True podcast, and author of several amazing books. In this episode, we discuss the Kingdom of Heaven is the opposite of this world. Satan schemes to destroy us through comparison. In God’s economy, the first shall be last, and the last shall be first. Social Media exacerbates comparison. It causes us to pull away from one another by either making us feel inferior or superior. Comparing ourselves to others is a trap. Shannon uses a measuring cup analogy as an example for us to live a life poured out, instead of measuring ourselves against others.
Comparison is not good.
Comparison is dangerous.
Comparison is a thief.
Comparison steal our joy.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
“If social media is the window, it is really hard to come away from the window”
“We are better together”
“God arranges the parts of the bodily His design and gives us different gifts, different resources, different parts of our lives and he gives and fits us together not to be uniform, but united.”
“Our unity is born not of our uniformity. I need what you have, and you need what I have”
“Sideways glancing can be such a distraction”
“Emptying myself and lifting others up”
“As Christians we step up on the platform to serve”
“Jesus poured Himself”
“We are teammates”
“Stay low. Grow Slow.”
WISDOM FROM ABOVE
James 3:13-18 ESV
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
On social media, in the neighborhood, at church, or the school drop-off lane, do you drive yourself to prove that you measure up? Do you feel ashamed when you don’t? Measuring yourself against others isn’t healthy. And it isn’t God’s plan. In fact, the way of Jesus is completely upside down from this measure-up world. He invites us to follow him and be restored to freedom, confidence, and joy. Leave measure-up comparison behind and connect with those around you by choosing Jesus’s me-free way of living: lifting others up and pouring yourself out!

In a series of interviews conducted live from the CPE – Christian Product Expo, Misty Phillip sits down with Cynthia Cavanaugh to discuss her Bible Study, The Godly Kings of Judah:Faithful Living for Lasting Influence.
We discuss what prompted Cynthia to write this study. Cynthia loves the Old Testament, a Historical Narrative that sets up the New Testament. As she studied the Old Testament, she began questioning why the Kings documented in 1 & 2 Chronicles and 1 & 2 Kings were falling off the rails. Cynthia was intrigued by the Kings who wanted to live right in the eyes of the Lord. We discuss what it means to be a Godly woman of influence, and the how everyday decisions we make have a lasting impact. The study includes 7 pilliars we can build into our life. Cynthia explains the story of Hezekiah from Chapter 6 about reforming prayer.
Key Takeaways
“Decisions we make have lasting impact on generations”
“Her influence would out last her life”
“The way we live our life, and choices we make everyday”
“When we value who God is in our life, and we our secure in it, when we value His word, then our influence will have an impact.”
“Being an influencer is living out who God created me to be”
“Who is in your inner circle?”
“Being a leader is about serving people well”
What will your legacy be?
Long ago, God’s people were divided into two kingdoms. The land of Judah—with Jerusalem as its capital—was led by twenty kings, only eight of whom were good. Not even half! What does that tell you? That it’s hard to follow God to the end and leave a legacy that’s remembered well.
Bible teacher Cynthia Cavanaugh wants you to meet the good kings of Judah. The kings who earned a reputation for godliness and received the Lord’s favor. Though their names aren’t well known to us, their examples should be celebrated. Cynthia takes you deep into the Word of God, heading into the often-overlooked corners of 1-2 Kings and 1-2 Chronicles. There you will uncover these ancient rulers whose lives—full of ups and downs—have hidden lessons for us today.
In The Godly Kings of Judah, you’ll embark on an 8-week Bible study that leads you through a process of repentance, renewal, and revival. The Old Testament kings will be your companions as you fight the Lord’s battles, topple the idols that claw at our hearts, and bring reformation to the holy people of God. Don’t miss out on this exciting adventure! Because when all is said and done, you want the legacy of the godly kings to be your own as well: “She did what was right in the Lord’s eyes.”
Cynthia Cavanaugh
Cynthia believes our greatest asset is the power to influence and create space for others to flourish. Her story of brokenness has propelled her to write, speak and give voice to help others redeem their pain and heal through the pages of God’s Word. Cynthia is the Founder and Director of Women Emerge a movement which encourages intentional networking and training. She holds a MA in Leadership from Trinity Western University, and is an adjunct professor in the leadership degree program. Cynthia is a bonafide tea snob who loves connecting with others over a cuppa. She and Kevin make their home in the far corner of the Pacific NW and have three married sons. Her happiest place on earth is being Nana to her grandchildren.

Misty Phillip sits down with Dave Kubal from Intercessors for America ministry organization in a series of interviews recorded during the National Religious Broadcasters media convention. Misty welcomes Dave back to the By His Grace to discuss their work with Intercessors for Ukraine.
Over a million refugees are fleeing Ukraine. A friend gave Dave the idea to deliver one million meals within 12 days from idea to food delivery. We talk about praying for Ukraine and sending 1,000,000 nutritious pre-packaged meals to war-torn Ukraine. We talk about collaborating for the Kingdom. Intercessors of America works with Intercessors for Ukraine and several other key organizations to pray and send relief to Ukraine.
About Dave Kubal

Equipping Christians to engage and speak truth into the critical cultural debates of our day, Kubal is a nationally-recognized faith leader serving as a faith advisory member to former President Trump and on the National Day of Prayer Task Force.
With over 35 years of national ministry experience, Kubal is a seminary-trained ordained pastor and former Vice President with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Kubal has also been a featured speaker at national conferences and events, from The Western Conservative Summit to NFL Chapels. Kubal and his family reside in the greater Washington, D.C. area.
Intercessors for America
Intercessors for America was founded in 1973. God impressed upon the hearts of a group of godly, respected men the necessity of prayer and fasting. The nation was experiencing a plethora of problems. At a teaching conference in Florida, a group of Christians focused on “prayer for the nations.” Challenged by the conference leaders Derek Prince and Ern Baxter’s fresh and extraordinary teachings, a half dozen men were chosen to steward the prayer movement and fast for the nation. This group would become Intercessors for America.
The average Christian does not have the contacts, time, or energy to keep informed about most national, state and local issues. More and more, some of these issues appear to deny our freedoms. Others undermine the basic moral fiber of our country. With each emerging concern, we need to seek God’s intervention and guidance for our leaders.
According to national studies, 83% to 90% of Christians pray weekly. As God intervenes and works in the hearts of His people, we must continue to unite and encourage believers in effective prayer and fasting for America.
God’s Word instructs us to pray regularly for those in authority over us. According to I Timothy 2:1-4:
“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.” (New Living Translation)
Intercessors for America inform, connect, and mobilize intercessors to pray for our nation and leaders. We desire to reach Christians in churches and communities nationwide with information and tools to unite them in effective prayer.
Intercessors for America Goals?
News, Prayer, & Action
- To inform praying Christians about national, state, and local prayer concerns
- To connect Christians moved to intercessory prayer with like-minded intercessors
- To grow and mobilize the number of Christians regularly interceding on federal, state, and local issues
Inform, Connect, & Mobilize
To inform, connect, and mobilize intercessors, IFA publishes materials and provides the following resources from its headquarters in Purcellville, Virginia:
- Monthly prayer letters – A First Friday Prayer Letter helps unite and focus Christians as individuals and groups in prayer and fasting. The letter is written from a biblical perspective; the letter contains timely national reports, accounts of revival and answered prayer, inspirational and informative teachings, and provides a First Friday Prayer Focus. Fasting is encouraged during the First Friday observance as a biblical way of humility and intensifying our prayers.
- Weekly prayer alerts – The Informer is sent via e-mail three times weekly. These alerts outline critical issues in our nation’s capital and monitor foreign fronts and national emergency matters. Upon request, the alert is supplied to individuals, churches, groups, and organizations. Special alerts are also sent as needs arise.
