Merry Christmas 2020 friends. In this episode of By His Grace, I chat with my friend, Kris Reece, author of the book “Make it Matter: A Roadmap to Living Life on Purpose.” We discuss practical ways to overcome fear and the importance of focusing inward, outward, and upward when dealing with it. We also talk about our purpose, living intentionally, and trusting in the Lord.
Key Takeaways
- “Usually prayer is not our first response. It’s our last resort.”
- “Fear at best distracts us from our relationship with God and our purpose in God. At its worst, it is literally going to rob you of everything until you are completely barren.”
- “Feel all the feelings – just don’t get stuck there.”
- “Fear doesn’t begin in the circumstances. It begins in our mind.”
- “At the very least, our fears should be fueling our prayers.”

When Fear and Doubt Rage – Dr Jeff Myers Summit Ministries
You will stay true
Even when the lies come
Your word remains truth
Even when my thoughts don’t line up
I will stand tall
On each promise You made
Let the rest fade away
There’s a peace far beyond all understanding
May it ever set my heart at ease
Dare anxiety come, I’ll remember
That peace is a promise You keep
Peace is a promise You keep
You will stay true
Even in the chaos
Your word remains truth
Even when my mind wreaks havoc
I will be still
For I’ve known all along
My Jehovah Shalom
There’s a peace far beyond all understanding
May it ever set my heart at ease
What anxiety fails to remember
Is peace is a promise You keep
Peace is a promise You keep
You are peace to a restless soul
Peace when my thoughts wage war
Peace to the anxious heart
That’s who You are, that’s who You are
You are peace when my fear takes hold
Peace when I feel enclosed
Peace when I lose control
That’s who You are, that’s who You are
I’ve found peace far beyond all understanding
Let it flow when my mind’s under siege
All anxiety bows in the presence
Of Jesus the Keeper of Peace
And peace is a promise He keeps

In this episode of By His Grace, I had the incredible opportunity to interview Robert Fergusson, the teaching pastor at Hillsong Church. Robert Fergusson is one of the key team at Hillsong Church, where he has been on staff for over 30 years. He is passionate about imparting practical life principles from the Bible and his primary responsibilities involve pastoral oversight and preaching and teaching. Robert is married to Amanda; they have three married children and currently seven grandchildren.
If Fergusson were to tell you a story, whether from a church platform or in the confines of the seat next to you on an airplane, you would undoubtedly listen – and undeniably be changed. That’s because he has been effectively telling stories for the past 45 years and believes that there is a priceless significance gained when you discern and absorb the age-old practice.
We discuss the heart of storytelling, the methodology that he uses in teaching communications, and his new book, “Are You Getting This? Teaching, Preaching, and Storytelling.”
Key Takeaways
- “We are qualified by the grace of God.”
- “A person with experience is never at the mercy of a person with an argument.”
- “Anyone can be used by God to speak.”
